Formula Student History
Organized in the USA by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), “Formula SAE” took place in 1981 for the first time. Even at this early state, 140 student teams from all over the world were attracted to this competition.
Starting in 1998 the “Formula Student” competition was organized by SAE and IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers). More than 70 teams are participating annually.
Two years later in 2000, "Formula SAE Australasia“ started with 30 teams showing up for competition.
Since then the number of competitions has increased.
By the use of standardized rules and regulations for the teams and their race cars, Formula Student has turned out to be a successful international competition with participants from all over the world.
